Title: Reign of Crowns
Series: Dupree Heights #1
Author: Dani Hart
Genre: Young Adult Dystopian
Release Date: April 6, 2017

One hundred years ago cyber technology evolved rapidly. Human interaction diminished as the need to leave home became obsolete. Doors closed and cities shut down, causing a tsunami of destruction. Humans were replaced with computers, the homeless rate increased exponentially, and families starved in the abandoned streets. The weak and poor died, the middle working class fell to the lower class, and the wealthy rose above everyone. The world was imploding from the inside out with no reprieve in sight.

My story begins on the fiftieth anniversary of a city raised from the ashes of a revolution and a name forged in the decay of innocent lives. With my heart pulled in two different directions, I am forced to make a choice to either walk in my mother’s footsteps to a scripted future and a perfect life, leaving my first love behind, or complete my father’s unfinished journey of redeeming the Dupree name.

When Sterling shifted his body to mine, I didn’t flinch or scoot away from him. And when his hand reached for my face, I didn’t refuse it. I needed to know what there was between us. I wanted to know, and when his hand cupped my cheek, I leaned into it, soaking in his soft hands and noting the difference between Gray’s calloused overworked fingertips. And when Sterling’s eyes fixed on mine, pleading for permission, I didn’t say a word. As he inched closer, I closed my eyes and let his lips brush lightly over mine, catching my breath, but I didn’t dare move. An enchantment had fallen over us. I could see it beneath the darkness of my lids, and when his lips brushed lightly over mine again, I could feel it take hold of me. My lips parted slightly as I struggled to breathe through it, giving him the permission he was waiting patiently for to push his lips against mine. Slowly, he kissed my lips, taking care for my guilty heart and my broken promises. My first chance at love had turned into a battle, and if I didn’t choose a side soon, the ground would be soaked with blood and the sky filled with tears.

He kept his hand on my face when he pulled away, watching me as if I would either break or run away. He shook his head, and his deepened dimple appeared when a smile crept onto his face.

“What?” I asked in response.

“You. I can’t figure out if this is real. If you are real. I’m afraid if I blink that you might disappear like an angel taken by the wind. You have freed my heart.”

My words were lost, taken by the same breeze that stole his angel. His hand slid off my cheek. “I’m not a fool to think there haven’t been others that have filled your heart with joy, but I’m asking that you consider me to be one of them.”

His hair had fallen over his lashes, and when he peered up from his lap, my heart cracked open enough to let him sneak in. “I will consider it,” I said softly, holding back tears. What had I just done?

The drive home with Gray by my side was the worst kind of torture to befallen a guilty soul. And worse, he knew something had changed. His shoulders slouched in a way I had never seen before, and the light in his eyes had dulled. The power I had over him had given me a glance into a window I never wanted to enter, and I now understood how that kind of drunken power over people could destroy not only a single person but a whole city.

I wanted to reach out and touch him. I wanted to tell him how sorry I was, but I couldn’t with the driver watching me suspiciously through the rearview mirror. It was as though everyone knew of my treachery, and judgment had been placed.

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale.

I thought selling myself to a mafia boss was noble. So what if they called him the Beast? I grew up in rags, and he would lift me to riches. All I had to do was give him my soul.

He was punishing. Insatiable. Captivating. Nothing like I expected him to be. Each day my reality blurred, leaving me wondering if I was slave or princess.

The longer I stayed, the more I lost myself to him. Even after every cruelty the Beast visited upon me, I longed for his touch. Even after every savage word he spoke, I begged for his lips. I thought the worst thing he could take was my body. I was too naïve to guard my heart.

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale.

Now I know better than to speak of happily-ever-afters.

Beast is the first book in the Hate Story duet. About what it means to fall in love with the person who has absolutely destroyed you, it contains disturbing and graphic situations that may be a trigger for some.

Mary Catherine Gebhard bites off more than she can chew. She’s lived in Salt Lake City, Utah her entire life but occasionally goes on vacation from reality. Don’t worry, she sends postcards.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00072]

The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.

Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.

Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.

The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.

The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

REVIEW

“I’d go three hundred and sixty four days thirsty if it meant I got to drink you in for just one.”

Seriously?!? Vi Keeland is a ninja at writing dirty talking, alpha males who are slightly damaged. The chemistry that appears on the pages… good gawd.

Drew and Emerie. Geezus.
Drew comes back from vacation to find someone squatting in his office space. Emerie is slightly naive and just moved to NYC, so she didn’t realize she had given money to rent a place that wasn’t available to rent. She’s out all of her savings, so Drew allows her to work for him (while his assistant it out on leave) and use the office space until she can find something else. They are both attracted to each other. The problem? Drew has baggage. A ton. And Emerie may be in love with someone else…. who hasn’t returned the feelings.

“I’m like a superhero. The Prolactinator.”

I’m not sure what to say about this. Vi Keeland has this formula for writing that always produces a grand slam. You KNOW that the 2 characters are going to get together. And you KNOW there’s going to be some sort of conflict that they’ll over come before they get their HEA. But. You just can’t stop reading. Drew is overly confident and just… all male. Emerie is a little quirky and afraid of making the jump. This one did start a little slower than some previous books, but still… so worth picking up and reading.

Pleasure Pain or Purpose: Book Two- Pain

By day I work in Marketing, which involves a fair amount of writing. Therefore, I never really had an interest to write for pleasure. When you do it all day, the last thing you want to do when you get home, is more writing. All the while, as my career progressed, so did my involvement in the BDSM lifestyle.

This interest in kinky sex started in my University years. Like most men, I loved meeting women, and especially the occasional one who didn’t mind being tied up, or blindfolded, or spanked. All sex was great, but kinky sex was more exciting, more exhilarating, and more fulfilling.

Over the years I was lucky enough to meet my fair share of submissive women. And don’t for a minute think these women were weak. Outside the bedroom they were confident, opinionated, gregarious and self-assured. However, inside the bedroom (so to speak) they wanted to feel the strong firm hand of a dominant man taking complete control.

Eventually I found the perfect partner, and am happily in a relationship.

One day, I flipped my laptop open, and to my surprise – I had an urge to write a BDSM story. Soon I had 20 pages, then 40, then 60. The novel that resulted was ‘Testing the Submissive’. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and the reviews excellent – all of which motivated me to continue writing. ‘A Condo with Two Views’ is my second full length novel, with other projects in the works. If you decide to give any of my writing a try, I hope you enjoy it!

LUNDYN
I tried to do everything in my power to distance myself from Maverick Strong; Even putting some miles between us by moving across country. Yet, here I find myself back where I started from – in my hometown and too close to Maverick. This time there will be no running away. This time I am finally putting an end to this vendetta.
MAVERICK
Trying to forget her was like trying to avoid a head-on collision with a semi truck – it just wasn’t happenin’. My little sister’s best friend and my enemy since sophomore year. Our hate is mutual and a must – it’s also fun. When Lundyn moves back home after leaving town the day after … Ah, I’m getting ahead of myself. Either way, the hate is still strong and if hating isn’t right, I don’t want to be wrong.
My fingers tap across my chest as I wait for Monica to finish stirring the wax. I am not by any means prude, but having my legs spread eagle waiting for hot wax to be applied just isn’t my definition of a good time.
“You nervous?”
“Just a little,” I admit.
“Promise you there’s no need, the first strip might be a surprise but after that, it’s smooth sailing.” Her words are meant to be assuring but fall short of easing any nervousness.
“Okay, since you promised and all,” I say to the ceiling, silently praying Monica’s fingers aren’t crossed.
A small gasp escapes as the gooey warm wax is generously spread over the top triangle of my va-jay-jay. Ok, I can do this, not bad.
Her cherub face appears over me. “How you doing, Lundyn?”
“Not too shabby, Monica.” I even give her a thumbs up. My confidence in the woman has risen about five notches. She’s knocking this out the park, and to think I was threatening to tit punch Harlow over this. I can be such a drama queen at times. Like I’m thinking I can get this done every two weeks or so.
And then…
Ripppppppp!
My eyes bulge out of my head, and my knuckles turn ashen as I dig my fingers into the soft cushion of the table. When my brain finally registers what just happened, a scream of death escapes my mouth.
“What the fuck Monica?” I yell as she rips the other strip, holy mother of pearl, she still has one more to go. Jesus take the wheel. Dear Lord, I need you now. I am being ripped to shreds by this polka dot dressed demon named Monica.
Ripppppppp!
Another blood-curdling scream and this time I curse Harlow and all her bright fucking ideas. Sweat beads form on my brow, and I have no other option but to breathe like I am in Lamaze class.
“You ok?”
What the fuck does she mean am I ok? Did she not hear my cries for help, is she insane? Before I can respond, I feel more warm wax added to the center part of my now tormented va-jay-jay.
Two more rounds of rips and screams come and then she heads to my butt crack. Monica and my relationship is on the rocks right now, like seriously it’s her, not me.
“Hang in there, Lundyn this is our last part, and it’s the easiest,” she giggles before saying, “I promise.”
She’s such a little lying bitch.
“What I need you to do is grab your knees to your chest, so your bottom is spread for me.”
This is just…ugghhhh. Reluctantly I oblige, I mean I’ve gone this far, might as well be bald as a fucking eagle on my ass, too. Once again, she applies a thick layer of warm wax to both sides of my butt crack.
“Now, I’m going to need you to relax as I pull these strips off. Okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, got it, relax.” I regulate my breathing while giving myself a mental pep talk.
She tugs a little at the bottom of the strip, and it catches a piece of hair. I panic, I fucking panic and clench. And in the midst of this clenching, I adhere my ass cheeks together.
“Oh my, Lundyn I told you to relax,” she chastises loudly.
“I’m sorry. I got nervous Monica.”
“Well, you’re going to have to wait just a minute. I have to grab some scissors.” She starts to walk past me, but I grab her arm.
“Scissors for what?” Jesus Christ, what have I done that warrants scissors? I am full out sweating in places I shouldn’t be. Harlow is getting punched so fucking hard when she least expects it for talking me into this bullshit.
Monica looks down at me with sympathetic brown eyes. “You’ve managed to adhere your cheeks together and unless I cut the wax off they are going to stay that way.”
A lone tear travels down the side of my face, and I nod my understanding as I nudge her arm. “Go now Monica, get the scissors so you can unclip my ass cheeks.” I whimper and shoo her out the door.
RD Berg lives in the great state of Texas with her three boys who drive her to the brink of insanity most days. “I’ll save myself from further embarrassment by cutting in.” His voice was deep, and I caught his scent before I saw him. Jack smiled at me and made a face like he’d gotten in trouble.

“I’m off to get Arlene some more wine.” He elbowed Cole in the ribs. “She gets a little randy after she’s had a few.” He laughed and scampered away to find his wife while Cole rolled his eyes in disgust.
He took my small hand in his big one, and my entire body flushed with heat at his proximity. Our hands had never touched before. If anything, he did his best to avoid any sort of contact with me.

His skin against mine was electric.

Just our hands touched, but it felt as if he was touching me everywhere.

He laced one arm around my waist as the notes of another ballad filled the room. We were dancing like old people, my hand in his, his arm around my waist, and my other hand resting on his shoulder.

That big, broad shoulder hidden behind his tuxedo coat.

My fingers flexed involuntarily, and I couldn’t help but notice how hard his entire body was beneath that sexy tux. My mind wandered and my mouth watered as I thought back to that picture I’d seen of him wearing just his swim trunks. That mental image mixed with the man in the flesh sent an aching need right to my core.

He pulled me just a bit closer to him, surprising the hell out of me, and I felt something rigid pressing against my hip.

Holy. Shit.

Was he as hot for me as I was for him?

No way. There was no possible way.

But his erection digging into me told a completely different story.

“What was my father telling you?” he asked in a deep rumble. I looked up into his eyes.

God, he was handsome. His milk chocolate irises had golden flecks in them that I’d never been close enough to notice before, and his breath smelled of peppermint.

I couldn’t think when I was this close to him. Words caught in my throat.

“That bad?” he asked. I sensed his nervousness.

I cleared my throat and broke our eye contact so I could think. “Just a proud father bragging about the time his son took off his clothes in a department store.”

“God. He tells everybody that stupid story. I’m surprised this is the first time you’ve heard it.”

I smiled. “It’s not so bad.”

“I was ten.”

I choked on my laugh as I tried to hold it in.

“It’s okay. You can laugh.”

I didn’t hold back, and even Cole chuckled along with me. I couldn’t help the joy that filled my heart in hearing even a small chuckle out of the man who was in a perpetual bad mood.

I made the mistake of looking up at him as we both laughed. When he smiled, adorable little crinkles outlined his eyes and he had a tiny dimple in just his left cheek. He looked carefree and young, ten times more beautiful than he had just moments earlier.

But when our eyes met, the mood instantly changed.

Neither of us was laughing anymore. Instead, an intense heat passed between us and the air around us filled with a raw and savage tension.

4 1/2 stars

Holy friggen forbidden romance! When Lisa reached out to see if I wanted to read the arc, she had me at the word ‘forbidden’.

“When you feel so much passion for someone, it’s easy for the lines between love and hate to blur.”

Lucy’s boss retires and leaves his son to run his company. The problem is he’s condescending, arrogant and gets under her skin like no other person, but she can’t stop picturing him naked. An even bigger problem? She’s married, but their business trips put them in situations that push boundaries.

This one is full of angsty amazingness. Yes, I’m making up adjectives, because regular ones just don’t do this justice. It’s all about blurring the lines and realizing that not all relationships are black and white. It’s those grey areas that get you thinking and your heart pumping. It’s about taking the leap into the unknown, knowing that the consequences will be big. But in the end, you’ll be happier for it.

Lisa Suzanne’s writing is spot on, as it hooks you in to this love triangle. I know cheating is a hard limit for a lot of readers, but that’s why it’s titled ‘Conflicted’. Lucy doesn’t jump in with both feet. She has reservations because her marriage isn’t what it seems. Nothing ever is…

SYNOPSIS

A TRUE STORY told through the voice of New York Times Bestselling author E.K. Blair.

She’s an author.
She’s a mother.
She’s a wife.
She’s a fraud.

A woman marked and bound by her own deceit, this is the astounding tale of how one choice knocked her world from its axis forcing her to battle through a year of scandal and betrayal, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy.

This is an intoxicatingly risqué stand-alone true story tangled in lust, heartbreak, and contrition.

“A scandalous tell-all and cautionary tale penned by E.K. Blair but based on the true-life story of another romance author. Author Anonymous is based entirely on real events that transpired in the life of another New York Times best-selling romance author. Blair was approached by Anonymous to pen the work, as it was perceived as too illicit, and possibly too damning, for Anonymous to write herself.” -New York Daily Post

Review

“Life is messy, and you can’t compare reality to fiction because you’ll always wind up disappointed.”

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. A true story about a well known author and her ‘indiscretions’? Yes!! Sign me up. Then I read it….

The blurb and all the teasers give nothing away as to the emotional roller coaster that’s hidden in the pages. E.K. Blair is a mastermind at hooking you in to a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are parts of this story that you’ll find yourself sympathizing with. Yes, the main character is a well known author, but she’s also a wife and mother.

“Life is full of what-ifs. There’s no guarantee of anything, so if that’s what you’re waiting for, you’re going to be waiting forever.”

I know this is marketed as a ‘True Story’, but I can’t help but feel like E.K. put her twist on parts. The marketing for this book was genius, but when I pull back the layers…. it’s another story of deceit. I love a good forbidden story, but I feel like this one got so much hype because it was marketed about the true story about an author we all know. If you took out that element, you just have a woman who makes mistakes…. big mistakes.

Author Anonymous was extremely well written.

“Falling in love isn’t about losing who you are, it’s about finding the best version of yourself.”

Just when I think, Mariah cannot possibly top her last book… she does. ‘The Effects of Falling’ is Summer and Kash’s story. We met them in book 1 and, if you’re like me, you couldn’t wait to see if Kash would get his HEA.

“You need to stop allowing your nightmares to haunt you.”

Summer and Kash have known each other for 11 years. She’s also been in love with him for 11 years. She helps him raise his daughter and run his business. It’s clear that they each have strong feelings for each other, but… can they move out of the friend zone and take things to the next level? What happens if they lay their feelings on the table and it changes everything?

“Every single time, I choose you, and I will always choose you.”

Sometimes guys are clueless… they just are. And women are overly sensitive (sorry, but we are). THAT is Summer and Kash. It’s clear that they care deeply for each other, but they have issues staying on the same page. Being friends… well, that’s easy. It’s what happens when that friendship is so much more. Summer starts questioning everything and Kash just can’t seem to do the right thing. You know they belong together because they just complete each other.

When you read a novel by Mariah Dietz, it’s hard not to get pulled in. Her attention to detail and how she taps into human emotion, it’s in a class all its own. She laughs, tilting her head and exposing the smooth column of her throat. “First, I don’t eat carbs, so there’s no way you’re getting me to do anything with the promise of pizza. Second, I just told you—I don’t date.”

“And neither do I.”

“Then why are you asking me out?” she asks.

“Because despite what you may think, I am a gentleman, and it’s only good manners to buy you dinner first.”

“First?” she asks, wrinkling her nose. “What’s second?”

We stare at each other. I let her figure it out on her own. It’s rare to meet a woman like me, someone who truly has no interest in finding a partner. I’ve heard that claim from enough girls to know when they’re bullshitting me, and unless Amelia is a Grade-A con artist, she definitely isn’t looking to get serious.

When she understands, the wrinkles on her forehead ease, and she parts her lips. I answer with a knowing smile. Suggesting sex within half an hour of meeting someone might normally get me slapped, but I get the feeling Amelia appreciates a more direct approach.

“I don’t date,” I say, “but I’m still a man with eyes.”

She makes no secret of looking me up and down. “You’re not my type either,” she warns. “I like men who carry a briefcase and see a barber regularly.”

I run my hand through my black hair, which I know is too long. “How’s that working out for you?”

She narrows her eyes. “Fine. Perfect.”

“I have some tattoos too,” I say. “And ride a motorcycle. Since that’s normally how I get most girls, I suppose those are turn-offs for you.”

“They are,” she says immediately, straightening her shoulders. “I’ve never understood the appeal of a bad boy.”

“Then tonight, we’re a match made in heaven, aren’t we? It shouldn’t be hard for either of us to say goodbye afterward.”

She bats her eyelashes a few times, not because she’s flirting but because she’s thinking. Considering. Which means it’s basically a done deal. I’ve never gotten this far with a girl only to have her walk away. “Why even bother with dinner?” she asks.

I take a moment to study her, her shoulder-length, perfectly coifed blonde hair. Her defined red lips that look like a heart when pursed, which is often. Yeah, based on the fact that I’m noticing details—something I try not to do anymore—I know I’m feeling her tonight. Most guys would jump at the opportunity to skip the small talk, but that doesn’t really appeal to me. I like women, always have. Just because Shana fucked me in the head doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend time around them—just so long’s it’s surface stuff.

I don’t want to scare her off by suggesting I might want to have a conversation with her, so I just shrug. “Because I’m starving.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Indulge me then. I need my energy.”

“For what?” she asks.

I arch an eyebrow at her. I’ll definitely need my energy for a night with her.

She reads my expression and her cheeks redden. “Oh.”

I have loved my best friend for eleven years.

Eleven years of celebrations.

Eleven years of victories and losses.

Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.

Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father.

He smiles at me and my world brightens.

He ignores me and I forget how to function.

He holds my hand and takes more of my heart.

He leaves and time stops.

We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?

The Weight of Rain (#1) – Released Oct 27, 2015
One night changed my life-one that I barely remember.
When I close my eyes, my mind paints a picture of his smile and shades the contours of his hands, the deep scar around his bicep.
I’m an artist, yet my hands are unsteady. With his presence, he has unknowingly broken that something inside of me that makes me who I am.
Being around him is like standing in a rainstorm. First the drops tickle my skin, and then they coat me, refusing to be ignored. Finally, they soak into me, reaching parts of me I don’t think anyone has ever touched.
When dreams turn into reality, will the picture in my mind transfer to paper?
