SYNOPSIS

I’m a blogger. He’s a writer.

He was my weakness.

I was his muse.

Once upon a time my marriage was built on love…

Until it wasn’t.

Where had we gone wrong?

I had given up hope…

But then he messaged me,

And his words intoxicated me.

Made me believe in love again.

Made me believe in truth.

My imperfect truth…

Prologue

The Beginning…

I don’t remember the last time I could truly say I loved my husband. To be completely frank, I believe it was before we even got married. You can hate me for this, but until you’ve walked a mile in my shoes you will never really know why I’ve done the things I’ve done.

Often I stare at him from across the room and repulsion courses through my veins, a feeling of dread, that this is what my life has become. I wonder why I can’t just leave him. Why I can’t find the strength to love myself enough and simply be happy.

Was my life pleasant before I met him? Was I content? What’s missing now? I’m pretty sure I’ve never truly been happy. I’ve always struggled to find where I belong, but how can I belong somewhere when I don’t fit anywhere?

Sometimes I find myself picking a fight with him just so he will talk to me. All I want is a little attention from him. Good or bad.

It’s sick.

I know.

But living in the land of indifference has changed me. I reside here day and night until the moment I snap from his indifference. Then I lash out, rebel against what has become this norm. Although it’s not right, the reprieve from the emptiness when we argue is welcome.

If I left, would he follow me?

Would he fight?

Would he even notice?

Synopsis

I came here to escape. Leave the debris and avoid the inevitable truths.

Things are better.

Worse.

Different.

I’m finding me, but in the process I fear I’m forgetting those I have left, and the ones who have left me. Maybe I’m losing who I was.

Can I forget my past and move forward?

Can I forget him?

Excerpt

My eyes fly open and my mind feels alert. Normally nightmares wake me up like this, but this time, nothing is haunting me.

I look around the dark living room, feeling my heart race, and then realize what woke me up. A loud train of curses followed by a whine and a scratching at the door makes my heart squeeze. I sit up slightly, my eyes and ears desperately seeking the night for the confirmation that I’m not dreaming. A scraping against the lock sends my heart rate to unhealthy levels as my eyes widen and my muscles tense. When I hear the key turn, I drop back to the couch, squeezing my eyes shut and trying to bury my face in my pillow, behind a wall of my hair as I try to make my breathing sound normal.

I can tell when the door is opened by the click of Zeus’s nails against the hardwood floors growing closer to me. His voice is hushed as he calls out to Zeus, making my entire body pulse with familiarity and nerves. Zeus’s heavy breathing grows until he places his front paws on the couch in front of me and begins bathing me in heavy kisses. There’s no way to try and pretend I’m sleeping through this. I’ll drown first. Plus my need to see him is outweighing my fears.

I sit up and wipe a hand down my face while searching the dark living room for him as Zeus pushes closer to me, whimpering with anticipation and what can only be described as unleashed excitement.

Then he appears in front of the coffee table. It’s too dark to make out much of him, but every fiber of my being feels some sort of response, verifying that it’s him. Elation and fear, mixed with rage and jealousy, are topped with curiosity and pain. It’s a confounding and stifling overabundance of emotions that has my eyes staring wide at him, soaking up every last detail that I can manage in the dim light while Zeus works to climb higher on the couch, hovering over me.

Max stares back at me and although it’s too dark to see the blueness of his eyes, I can see the fierceness in them. He looks pissed. No relief, no happiness like Zeus, just anger.

“Zeus,” he calls again in a tone I’ve rarely heard.

“It’s alright. He can stay.” Thankfully my voice barely comes out above a whisper because my emotions are shooting through me like vinegar when it meets baking soda—unsteady.

He stares at me, and like a geyser, unspoken words flood my mind. “Hey, Max.”

He must be just as shocked as I am that I was able to speak those words because as soon as his name leaves my lips, he turns and ascends the stairs without responding. His bedroom door slams and then silence rings in my ears.

I catch a movement out of the corner of my eye and turn to see Landon in the hallway, running a hand over his jaw, wearing only a pair of gym shorts. His head turns from the stairs to me, and then he silently walks to the couch.

“He’s …”

“It’s okay,” I say when the rest of his words don’t seem to find their way out. “This is his house too.”

“He’s not mad at you.”

I turn to look at him in obvious disbelief. Anyone would have been able to see that Max was mad at me. His reaction wasn’t shocking exactly. Max lost one of his best friends, just like I had. There have been days that I have felt really angry over the whole situation too. Angry that I didn’t know how to communicate my feelings, and angry about the way he dealt with my insecurities. I still struggle with being angry over removing myself and moving to Delaware because I thought it would be the right decision for me.

Kitty and I have discussed my tendency to run from awkward situations; she’s the one who provided me with the new term “remove myself from.” It sounds a lot better than fleeing, but I had fled, and I know it. I can give a hundred reasons why for each time too, rationalizing each situation until I’m nearly positive it was the right decision—but I can never make it to one hundred percent. That small bubble of resistance and doubt always prevents me from being able to allow the memories to finally be discarded, and then it begins spreading, eating the conviction one doubt at a time.

Blurb

Braelynn and Peyton are finally headed down a path without torment—until he allows someone else to come between them.

With the remnants of her broken heart scattered, Braelynn begins to piece herself back together, piece by ragged piece.

Peyton has dark secrets of his own. Secrets that leave him no choice but to walk away from the only woman he’s ever loved.

But his desire for Braelynn has him fighting between what he wants, and what he needs to do to keep her safe.

Love can only withstand so much. The connection between Braelynn and Peyton has been tested before—could this be their breaking point?

Prologue– Peyton
Present

I had lost her.
And not like before. Not like when she pushed me away and I’d refused to leave. This time, I had lost all of her.
Her heart.
Her adoration.
It was all gone.
The love she’d had for me vanished. Her eyes changed when she looked at me; the brilliance in them faded.
I had betrayed her in the worst possible way.
Braelynn was the only woman I’d ever loved. She was the one who changed my entire life. All I’d ever wanted to do was protect her, and I had spent months trying to do just that. I wanted to keep her away from my past—away from secrets that could hurt her and destroy us. But instead, I’d stomped on our relationship, dragging her heart through the mud in the process. Her pain and her heartache were entirely my fault.
She might never forgive me for what I did.
The day he showed up at my office changed everything. I shouldn’t have let him blackmail me but I was caught off guard, and the only thing I’d wanted to do was shelter Braelynn from harm’s way.
I watched as she sat on the couch, her loose tendrils covering the tears that dripped from her eyes. The cut on her lip had swollen in the past thirty minutes. Her eye was bruising, turning shades of blue and purple with each passing second. The sling that the paramedics had placed over her body was supporting her right arm. She held her head low while talking to the authorities. Her hands were coated with his dried blood.
She glanced in my direction and her eyes told me everything.
With that one look, I knew I had lost her.
Forever.
***
Melissa tapped on my glass office wall. Looking up, I noticed her point to the elevator and give me the thumbs up. I need to give my secretary a raise for putting up with the unstable man she works for, I thought to myself.
It had been a little over a month since I last saw Braelynn. She had ignored every one of my calls and she wouldn’t speak to me. Any time I tried to see her she avoided me, and the few short times I did bump into her, she wouldn’t even look at me. Her green eyes had always been the conduits to her emotions. Without being able to look deeply into them, I had no inkling how she felt.
She’d given me no choice but to lie to get her here. She would be pissed but at least she had come. There was one thing Braelynn never did half-assed, and that was her job. She took pride in what people thought of her in the workplace. So I had Melissa reach out to her and explain that there was an old case she had worked on while at PH Esquire, and the client would only speak to Braelynn.
She took the bait.
She looked beautiful in a tight gray skirt and orange blouse. I tried to hide the grin that I knew was spreading across my cheeks. Her heels had slammed against the marble floors before stopping at Melissa’s desk. I assumed she’d want to talk to this previous client and leave as quickly as possible. When Melissa began to explain that there was no client, her face whipped in my direction and her nose crinkled with anger. She tossed her bag on Melissa’s desk and marched towards me. I loved this fiery vixen that couldn’t hold her tongue and braced myself for her anger.
“I have a job across town!” she shouted, stomping into my office. “I have cases I need to review. I have a schedule I need to maintain. What do you want?”
“You!” I stood, resting my hands on my desk. It was a simple answer. She was what I wanted. What I needed to get back.
“I did not get stuck in rush hour traffic to hear this.” She marched over to my desk and mimicked my pose on the opposite side. “Do not summon me with some bullshit excuse again. I am not your dog, Peyton. I do not come when you call!” She stood and twirled back towards the door.
“You do not walk away from me!” I knew how to push her buttons. If she walked out of my office now, it would take me months to get her back.
She looked back, and her eyes pierced through me with hatred. “We are over. I don’t know how many more ways I have to paint it for you, Peyton,” her finger pointing between our bodies, “but I can’t do this anymore. You lied to me for months. I cried myself to sleep so many times. And for what? Because you were a coward!”
I walked around my desk, meeting her in the middle of the office. “We. Are. Not. Over. That will never be true. We’re never going to be over because I won’t allow it. Get that through your head. I won’t ever get over you, so us being over is irrelevant.” I lifted my hand to touch her cheek, but she pulled away.
“We’ve done this song and dance before.” Her voice cracked with the pain I’d caused her. “I can’t go back to living that way.”
“How many times do you want me to apologize?” I reached for her forearm and she didn’t stop me.” Come back to me, Braelynn. Forgive me.”
“Please stop . . . ” She looked at my hands on her skin. I knew she felt the electric current running through us because where our fingers connected, I felt the same current.
“I love you.” It was all I could say.
“Stop. I’m tired of your mind games. I cried for so long, thinking of everything I could have possibly done wrong. And it was you, not me.” She yanked her arm away. “I’m not a toy that sits on your shelf to play with when you’re bored and horny. I am not the girl who will run back to you because you said you were sorry and that you love me. You want me to forgive you, earn me! Until then, there is no us.” She paraded out of my office.
If she wanted me to earn her, I would.
Braelynn belonged with me.

My Review

“It’s not going to be easy. The worthy battles never are.”

How do I review this book without giving away all its secrets?? This book starts where book 1 ended. If you didn’t read The Resistance, you must read that first, otherwise you will be lost. (and you should stop reading this review because it may contain spoilers).

Holli and Dalton had the whirlwind relationship in book 1, but now they must learn to live together with their different lifestyles. Holli’s business is really taking off so she must learn to juggle her career and her new role as ‘Mrs. Johnny Outlaw’. Dalton is still struggling over the loss of his best friend when jealousy becomes the common theme. When you’re the famous Johnny Outlaw, it seems that nothing you do is private. Everything you do is spun around until the truth is no longer a component. Holli and Dalton must work through their issues… and quickly.

“… every dark day is worth the hundred light ones…”

I loved reading the continuation of Holli and Dalton’s story. Sometimes you read a book with a HEA and wonder… what happens next?? It can’t all be cupcakes and rainbows and this book proves that. It shows how the characters stumble and scramble to put the pieces back together. They aren’t perfect and they make huge mistakes. It makes me love their journey even more.

I was given an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 out of 5 stars

Man Candy Deleted Scene

by Jessica Ingro

Ben

Today was the big day. All the preparations and stress were coming to an end and the two of us were going to start a new phase of our lives together.

I looked out the window and saw Rissa standing under a tree in her white sundress. My heart skipped a beat like it always did when I saw her and a smile spread across my face. God I loved that woman and starting tonight things would only get better between us.

The last eight months with her had been incredible. Once Rissa finally opened up to me, there was nothing holding her back. The love that poured out of her humbled me on more than one occasion. There was no soul more beautiful than hers.

She constantly told me she was a lucky girl that I chose her to love. Truth is I’m the lucky one. Every day I was grateful that she chose me and that we had a beautiful life together.

Needing to be with her, I turned and headed out of the room. When I walked out on the front porch, my steps quickened until I was practically running towards her. I picked her up and swung her around, making her shriek.

Tanner and Meredith smiled as I spun her around one more time before putting her on her feet.

“If you two are good, we’re going to go,” Meredith said around a big yawn.

“You should definitely get home and put your feet up,” Rissa told her with concern etching her face.

“Me and these little guys will be fine,” she said with a wistful expression on her face. She rubbed her swollen belly and leaned back into Tanner’s chest.

“You better be,” Tanner murmured and placed a kiss on her neck.

I guess you could say Tanner and Meredith surprised the shit out of everyone when they eloped to Vegas and announced she was pregnant with twins. We were all happy for them. They were a perfect fit together and Tanner seemed to be settling into impending fatherhood with surprising ease. I think he was more excited for their arrival than even Meredith.

Although my mother had a lock on being the most excited. Her house was already baby proofed with a nursery set up in Tanner’s old bedroom. She said mine and Rissa’s kids could go in my old room. I hated to tell her, but she would have to wait a while for that one.

“Thanks again for coming,” I told them when we walked them to Tanner’s truck.

He lifted Mer up into it, then shut the door and turned to face me. We gave each other a hand shake followed a back slapping hug.

“Anytime. See you later, Rissa.” He gave her a quick wave and was gone.

“Bye,” she called out as he reversed from the driveway.

“Alone at last,” I whispered in her ear.

“Yep.”

“Want to go christen the kitchen?” I bit her earlobe making her moan.

“After we unpack your stuff.”

“All of it?” I grumbled.

She nodded in answer.

“But that’s going to take hours,” I complained.

“I’ll help you.”

“Can’t we christen the kitchen first?”

“Come on. I’ll help you and it’ll go faster. And to sweeten the pot, I’ll even break out the chocolate syrup later when we christen the kitchen.”

“Will the syrup be on you or on me?”

“On you, silly.” She licked her lip suggestively and I had to admit my body took notice.

I pursed my lips in thought as if I really needed to think that one over. “Okay you have a deal.”

I carried her over the threshold and upstairs to our room. Setting her on her feet, I kissed her breathless before moving away to turn my iPod on. Tunes were definitely necessary while we got down to the daunting task of merging our two lives into one.

It had taken me a long time to convince Rissa that we should move in together. We spent every night together anyway, so it just made sense. I was sick of shuffling clothes around and having multiples of things spread between the two houses.

After she agreed, my house sold within a month and even though it felt like the longest month of my life, it was worth it. Because now she was mine permanently.

What must have been hours later, all of my belongings—clothes, books, toiletries, everything—had a home in Rissa’s house.

Turning up the volume, I pulled her into my arms and started dancing around the bedroom with her while I sang One Direction’s “Better Than Words” to her.

“I can’t believe you know the words to a boy band song,” she teased.

“I’m culturally diverse.” At her you can’t bullshit me look, I told her the truth. “Every time I hear the song it makes me think of you so I can’t bring myself to turn it.”

“You’re such a big softy.”

“I’m not sure that’s such a good thing. I thought you liked me hard.”

“Hard… soft… I love you either way.”

Romeo and Juliet had it easier. They came from warring families who clearly drew a line for them not to cross. It wasn’t the same with Easton and Georgia. They came from a town where family was precious and moments were cherished. Still, there were unspoken rules, such as not falling for your best friends kid sister—or testing troubled hearts.
The losses Easton and Georgia endured at a young age tossed them down separate paths, far from the sleepy town they both had roots within.

Now, broken roads and bad decisions were the demons in their pasts—choices that would either draw them together, or rip them apart when chance landed them face to face once more.

“I tend to attract the broken.”
“I’m not broken,” Easton snapped in a hiss of words.
She felt her body tense before her next bold words came. “Did I say you were?” She lifted her chin. “Am I attracting you, Easton Ballantine?”
He looked right at her, green to blue, a stare reaching past the fraudulent calm surface. Yes, she was. Which only pissed him off more. Not only was she not anywhere near his type, she was Memphis’s kid sister, Lucas’s daughter—she was seventeen. No way in hell this is going down.
He smirked to break the gaze they shared, to put a wall between her and him—to do anything to block the way she was messing with his head.
“I’m every kind of bad habit you don’t want or need, Georgia.”

Tainted Love

The first in a new three book series from Ghiselle St. James:

This is not a fairytale. This is not a story of a woman who is perfect. This is not the story of a perfect couple that sails off into the sunset. This is gritty. This is frustrating. This is heartbreaking. This is my story, hard as it may be to tell.

My name is Sullivan Beal – at least, that’s what I tell people – and I live life by my own rules. Most of my adult life has been spent hiding from my past. That is, until I meet HIM face-to-face.

Ben Hayes is the demanding C.O.O. who is hell-bent on having me for himself. But, I’m wrong for him. I know it, the universe knows it. If he ever found out who I really am, how utterly tainted I am, he wouldn’t waste his time wanting me.

There are things in my past that would destroy everyone in my wake. But Ben is relentless, trying to break down the walls around my heart that a messy past has caused me to construct. It’s a pity he doesn’t know…I am too tainted for love.

Broken Love (Tainted Love Book 2)

This isn’t a perfect story. It’s gritty, dark, frustrating but beautiful. Love isn’t all hearts and flowers and bullshit declarations that are hollow and empty. If you love someone, you have to PROVE you’re worth they’re love. The road to happily ever after is paved with mistakes and horrible decisions…don’t hold mine against me. The second in a three book series by Ghiselle St. James.

*******

Sullivan:

I have been captured by the only person I hate in this life; a person that I once foolishly loved. He is poison to me. Will I ever be free of him? Will I ever see Rachel again? Will I ever see my parents, my brother again? And Ben…will he ever know how I feel about him? So many wasted days I spent resisting him. A tear trickles down my face at that; because as I see Rick shaking that needle with a wicked gleam in his eye, I know this is the last time anyone will ever see me alive.

*****

Ben:

I’ve worked very hard to maintain this control I have, but in just a few weeks Sullivan Beal came into my life and toppled my carefully constructed walls, and for a moment I didn’t care. Now that she is out of my life, I should be happy…but all I can do is think about her; how I miss her smile and how she made me feel free. I have to get her back. The love I have for her may not be perfect, but our relationship scarcely is. And that’s what makes it perfect. She may be tainted with demons from her past that she holds close to her chest, but I will free her from them; because as frustrating as my sweet girl is…I’m in this for the long haul. She might be broken, but I love her anyway.

But one phone call…that dreaded phone call has me in a tailspin. Sullivan is kidnapped & it’s a race against time to find her before he hurts her…

Or worse…

Ghiselle St. James is a Jamaican author who has a never-ending love for written thoughts: poetry, song lyrics and fiction. A songwriter by the age of 9, Ghiselle enjoys singing just as much as she loves writing. She has been writing erotic novels since she was 13 years old. Never mind that they went unpublished; she had something inside her that wanted to break free…and it helped that it made her popular with the boys (hehe). Writing has been her outlet for most of her life, and will continue to be.

Ghiselle lives in Jamaica with her husband, Chris, and her handsome baby, Panthro the cat. She works full time but always makes time for music, writing, reading and chatting on Goodreads.
Ugh, I hate talking about myself in the third person.

Anywho…
I went to the Jamaica Theological Seminary (haha, yes!) where I studied Social Work and graduated with honors in June 2010. Since then, the writer in me has reawakened and hasn’t gone to sleep. I completed my first novel in January of 2013 which led me into writing my debut novel South Row in March 2014.
I pray my passion brings you as much joy as it has brought me.

Trust: An experiment of marital proportions.

Lucy is sick of the dating scene and especially sick of what she can never have; The Kerrigan boys, specifically Will and Heath.

After a run-in with Heathcliff Kerrigan, that proves everything she already knew about him, she agrees to partake in a new dating experiment. More like a marriage experiment.

Her match will be handpicked specifically for her; her likes, desires, needs, and possibly, her worst nightmare. And the scariest part is that she won’t meet him or know his name until they meet at the altar.

Agreeing, she waits for the call that will change her life.

Will Lucy follow through and marry a total stranger?
Or does Heath have other plans in mind for her happily ever after?

Trust is a 15k word serial with a bit of humor, scorching steam, and surprises that await you at the altar.

me oct 2014 PS cropped

I’m a stay-at-home mom with four young children and one extremely supportive husband. We’ve been married for over ten years and reside in Metro Detroit, Michigan.

I’ve dreamed of writing romance novels since I was little. After having baby #4, who may or may not have been fathered by Christian Grey, I decided it was time to pursue my dreams.

When I’m not running to various appointments, enjoying time with my friends and my family, dating my husband, or avoiding cleaning my house, I’m writing!

I love music and believe that books and music can’t exist without the other. My goal is for you to read more than a good book, but for you to have an experience!

Fuck me once, I’ll fuck you twice … then I’ll bury you.

No prison can keep me from seeking revenge. Especially when it comes to her.

She, the woman who put me in jail.

I swore that I’d come for her, to claim what belongs to me: Her life.

I’m not a good man. On the contrary, I love to be bad. It’s in my veins. Just like it’s in my veins to ruin her.

She’s an actress, pretending to be a saint, but we both know that isn’t true. One way or another, she’ll pay for what she did.

I will hunt for her. Make her fear me. Make her body mine.

Bad deeds never go unpunished … And I always go out with a bang.
