I’m dead.

I’m cold and alone and I’m dead. There’s no air in my lungs. My chest is as cold and hollow as a cave on a snow-capped mountain side. My heart no longer beats there. Frigid winds whistle through my ribs and the sadness inside me weeps like my favorite tree.

Days ago, I met with death face to face. The mirror, our meeting place. My two darkened green eyes stared deeply into hers. I tilted my head to the side. She did too.

“It’s time,” I whispered.

“It’s time,” she whispered.

And with that I turned away from her, the woman in the mirror who knew all of my secrets and all of my pain. I walked away from her and yet we’d never been closer than we were in that moment. The inner struggle was over. No more arguing with the woman in the mirror. No more arguing with myself. The choice was made. She was the victor. Or was I?

That was the day Riah Winter died.

interview

I was lucky enough to be able to ask Kathryn a few questions about LWIW.

ARABB: How different would you say that LWIW is than your previous novels?
Kathryn: It is different in that it’s not a romance novel. It deals with marital issues and we see some romance but it’s not the driving force of the story.
ARABB: Therapy absolutely gutted me after reading it, but the story hasn’t left my heart. I feel like this novel is going to bring out something different in all of us, but will have a message that will stay with us long after we finish the last page.  Would that be a safe assumption?
Kathryn: Absolutely!
ARABB: Are you worried about the reception of this novel?  You say that it isn’t a romance novel, which leads me to believe there will be no HEA.
Kathryn: I can’t say much about the ending. I will say that the ending is beautiful in its own way. That’s as much as I can say.
ARABB: Is this novel based on personal experiences?
Kathryn: I have battled depression most of my adult life. So, I guess that would be a yes.
Thank you so much to Kathryn Perez for answering my questions!!

Death of the Spirit *Crossing Death #2*
Genre~Dark Fantasy/Occult

I have no idea who I am anymore.

In Los Angeles, I would have given anything to go home to Orenda, my world where magic was alive and nature spoke to me. Now that I’m back I feel out of place, burdened with responsibility. The human part of me misses the simplicity of Earth, the mage part begs for connection with magic, and the demon part? I don’t want to admit that exists.

As the darkness inside me grows, I’ll learn to sacrifice for the greater good, as my people have always done. In order to save my family (both mage and human alike), I must face my nightmare, embrace the demon, and descend into the shadowy world of my enemy—the Hell of the Damned.

Once there, I will have nothing left to fear but myself: Edmund Gavel, human, mage, demon… maybe monster.

I’ve often been accused of having done more in my life than the average person my age but if I were completely honest, I’d have to tell you my secret: I’m really 392. So after all this time, I’m a pretty crappy writer.I have two books published and a bunch half written (when you have eternity, where’s the reason to rush?). I’ve been favorably reviewed by horror greats like Nancy Kilpatrick, and my how-to-write-horror articles have been quoted in scholarly (aka community college freshmen’s) papers.I enjoy the occasional Bloody Mary, although a Bloody Kathy or Susan will suffice.Mostly, I just try to keep a low profile so people don’t figure out who I REALLY am.

Love Hate Relationship

synopsis

People say that sometimes the line between love and hate is thin. What they don’t tell you is that sometimes it’s invisible.

Rowan Locklaine gave his heart to one woman a long time ago and has no desire to go through that kind of torture ever again. His painful past has turned him cold and heartless. Women serve only one purpose as far as he’s concerned, and relationships are nothing but a waste of time and energy. When the mouthy little blonde, Navie Collins, is hired as his personal assistant, he finds his world turned upside down. And against his better judgment, he can’t seem to stop thinking about her.

Navie Collins has spent years convinced she’s not good enough, that no one could possibly want her. Growing up the way she did helped to thicken her skin, so when she walks into a job interview and meets the temperamental, foul-mouthed, best-selling author Rowan Locklaine, she’s all too happy to put him in his place.

Rowan and Navie are convinced they hate each other. But as time passes and the attraction between them begins to grow, these two stubborn, strong-willed people have a life changing decision to make. Can they move beyond their pain for a chance at something better, or are they destined to let their pasts dictate their future?

**Love Hate Relationship is a STANDALONE Contemporary Romance that follows characters introduced in Shrinking Violet. It is not necessary to read Shrinking Violet first**

excerpt

“Hello?”

“I need you over here right now.”

Temporarily stunned, I stood frozen in place until realization hit me. “Rowan?”

“Who else could it possibly be?” he asked in a detached, insulting tone that instantly got my hackles up.

“People call me!” I insisted childishly. I hated how my maturity nosedived whenever it came to my boss.

“If you say so. I need you to get over here ASAP.”

There was a strong possibility I let out a rather indelicate snort at his typical assholery. “Since you asked so nicely, I’ll be right there!” I answered, my voice heavy with sarcasm.

“Do you always have to be so damn difficult?” he grunted

“Do you always have to be such a raging hemorrhoid?” I fired back. I would have sworn I heard him choke on a laugh if I thought the man was capable of laughter. Rowan Locklaine was more likely to suck the souls from small children than to laugh.

“Did you really just call me a raging hemorrhoid?”

Was that humor in his voice? Couldn’t be. The Devil doesn’t have a sense of humor.

“If the shoe fits…or in your case, whatever Satan wears on his feet. It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday night, Rowan. Have your latest conquest run whatever bullshit errand you need taken care of. I’m off the clock and not required to be nice to you.”

“This is you being nice?” he asked indignantly, causing me to roll my eyes.

“Hanging up now.”

“Wait, wait, wait!” he hollered through the phone line just as I was about to disconnect. Reluctantly, I held the phone back up to my ear. “Look.” He huffed out a loud breath. “I’m…I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to insult you…Navie? You still there?” he asked when I remained silent for several seconds after his apology.

“The world is coming to an end, isn’t it? It’s the zombie apocalypse. I’m not prepared! I haven’t taken any crossbow lessons yet!”

“You’re friggin’ hilarious,” he deadpanned.

I didn’t bother to stifle my laughter. “I like to think so.”

I listened as he inhaled deeply. “Please, I really need your help. I know it’s your day off, but it’s an emergency. I’ll even make sure Lauren pays you time and a half. Can you just please get here as fast as you can?”

“Rowan.” I sighed in exasperation. “It’s at least a twenty-minute train ride to your place. It’s not like I can just snap my fingers and make myself appear on your doorstep. You’re on the Upper East Side and I’m in Murray Hill.”

“I’ll pay for a cab.”

“Fine,” I grumbled dramatically. “But I’m not changing out of my comfy clothes. And I want double-time, not time and a half.”

“Okay, okay. Whatever you want. Just get here.”

At the unease in his voice, I began to worry a little about what was so important that I had to rush over to his apartment on a Saturday night. Not wanting to hesitate in the event it was something major, I slipped on a pair of bright pink flip-flops, pulled a gray hoodie on over my ‘That’s what she said’ t-shirt, and headed for the door. The only change I was willing to make before walking out the door was trading in my yellow rubber ducky pajama pants for a pair of plain black leggings.

By the time my cab pulled up in front of Rowan’s building, he was already standing out front waiting for me. As I stepped out onto the sidewalk, he leaned in and paid the driver before rising to his full height and turning my way. His hair was standing on ends, as if he’d been running his hands through it anxiously, and I couldn’t help but notice how amazing his body looked in just a plain white tee and another pair of athletic shorts. Man, it really was a crying shame he was such a mega-douche. Women around the world would line up just for a chance to stare at him uninterrupted for five minutes.

“Navie,” Rowan’s rumbly voice called out, shaking me back into reality. When my vision came back into focus, I noticed Rowan was standing much closer than he had been just a second before. When had that happened?

“Huh?”

“I asked if you were coming.” His typically chilly blue gaze warmed just a bit as a cocky smirk spread over his lips. “You were just checking me out, weren’t you?”

Oh, hell, I thought with a huge roll of my eyes.

“You were, admit it. You didn’t hear what I was saying because you were too busy checking me out. It’s okay, everyone does it.”

“And then your mouth opens and the fantasy’s ruined,” I responded dryly with a roll of my eyes as I shoved past him. “Let’s get this over with. Too long in your presence and the desire to cause bodily harm becomes too overwhelming to ignore.”

“You know,” he started as we stepped into the elevator leading up to his floor. “I had no idea you were so…feisty. Gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised.”

“Oh, goody. My purpose in life has been accomplished. I can die happy now.”

Luckily, the doors chose to open at that moment, saving me from whatever smartass comment Rowan had in return.

Love Hate Relationship Teaser #7

reading

Love Hate Relationship is part of the ‘Colors’ series of standalone books.

“There was no doubt in my mind that he was the lion and I was his prey…”

When I saw that Navie was getting her own book, I couldn’t wait for her to get her happy ending. If you read ‘Shrinking Violet’, then you know that her life hasn’t ever been easy. Disappointment isn’t new to her.
Navie lands an interview that ends up being life altering. She soon finds out that it isn’t the original job she applied for, but rather to be a personal assistant. The problem is, what if you’re the assistant to someone who does everything they can to make you hate your job?

“If I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s that pain is inevitable.”

Rowan, Rowan, Rowan. He is rude and bossy and thinks he’s God’s gift to women. That is, until a girl in an ill fitting, brown suit walks into his life. She is nothing like the women he normally goes for, but she’s exactly what he needs. She puts him in his place and talks to him like no one ever has.

“Being close to her was like taking a wrecking ball to the wall I’d built around myself.”

I absolutely LOVED this book. It had a little of everything. It was sweet and sexy and funny and angsty and just… all those good things that make it impossible to put down once you start reading. The banter between Rowan and Navie will make you yell at your kindle “JUST KISS HER ALREADY”.
There is a dual POV which just adds to the whole dynamic of the story. It’s in those bits and pieces of Rowan’s POV that we see that maybe… just maybe… there’s more to him than just a womanizer with a bad attitude.

If you’re looking for a story that will make you laugh and cry and everything in between, definitely pick this one up.

(I need to add. Please tell me that we’ll eventually get Pepper’s story. Please?)

about the author

JessicaPrince

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Synopsis

One night changed my life—one that I barely remember.

When I close my eyes, my mind paints a picture of his smile and shades the contours of his hands, the deep scar around his bicep.

I’m an artist, yet my hands are unsteady. With his presence, he has unknowingly broken that something inside of me that makes me who I am.

Being around him is like standing in a rainstorm. First the drops tickle my skin, and then they coat me, refusing to be ignored. Finally, they soak into me, reaching parts of me I don’t think anyone has ever touched.

When dreams turn into reality, will the picture in my mind transfer to paper?

Excerpt

“Why do you pretend that I don’t mean anything to you when clearly I do?”

My charcoal presses hard against the paper as my neck snaps up. He’s fully dressed, his usual baseball hat still on, flipped backward, and wearing a flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. Flannel is growing on me, but I won’t tell him that. His face shows no signs of humor or teasing. If anything, he looks almost pained.

“Did you just get home?”

“Why did you pretend you wanted to know me? Why not just call it what it was?” His eyes narrow as his chin drops.

“Have you been drinking?” I know the answer before I ask the question. I can smell it.

“I liked you, Lo.”

My heart races with too many possibilities and hopes, and not enough validation.

“You spend so much time trying to convince yourself that what happened that night wasn’t real.”

“I was drunk.”

“You weren’t drunk. I wouldn’t have slept with you if you were drunk! I don’t do shit like that. It’s disgusting!”

“I don’t remember large parts of that night.”

“You remember more of that night than you’re willing to admit.” His eyes land on my drawing where he studies the image for several long seconds. I should have covered it as soon as I realized he was here, but it was too late from the beginning. It’s of him—of course it’s of him. And to make matters worse, he’s shirtless. The scars he mentioned me knowing about are there, as well as the few tattoos most of the world is deprived of seeing. “Obviously you remember.”

His words make my cheeks burn with embarrassment. He’s right, but hearing that he’s aware of this fact is both strangely relieving and move-to-Australia-tomorrow worthy. “You left an impression,” I admit before moving my attention so I don’t have to see his reaction.

“Lo, I haven’t been able to forget that night either. I think about it all. The. Damn. Time.” His words are punctuated, driving his message much further than just my thoughts. “I spent weeks trying to figure out who you were.” I feel slightly guilty that his admission makes me so happy. For so long I have thought he avoided me, lied about his name and identity so that I wouldn’t find out who he truly was.

“Why did we wait so long to be honest with each other?”

His breath is a snicker. “We’re only admitting a fraction of anything.”

His words run through my head, lacing into several variations of what he actually means, still, I nod. “This conversation needs to happen. We need to figure shit out because I’m tired of trying to avoid you, and I’m really tired of you ignoring me.”

“Aren’t we kind of doing that now?”

He shakes his head as he closes the distance between us, then grips the table with his left hand and bends so his face is level with mine. “If I stay in here any longer I’m going to do something that would probably make me deserve getting slapped, so I am going to say this and then leave.” He pauses. I can smell the scent of beer and peppermint on his breath, along with the warmth of his skin as his shoulders roll forward. His eyes are wide and bright, demanding me to pay close attention to his words. “I know you’re tough. I know you can draw better than any damn person I’ve ever met in my life and most likely ever will. I know you love Mercedes and would never risk changing that relationship. But we like each other, and I don’t know what in the hell that means exactly, but I know I want to find out. The question you need to ask yourself is, do you?”

His throat moves, swallowing words we both know he’s fighting with. Ones that would make things both better and worse. He reaches forward, his chest grazing my shoulder. I hate that I don’t want to move. That I want to absorb the feel of his warmth and convince him to admit truths we both know and bury on a daily basis in a sea of general politeness and attempts to avoid one another. But the truths are laid open with the innuendos, silent stares, and capitalized when we go out of the way to cross the other’s path. He has become an exhausting and thrilling addiction that I don’t know how to consider stopping or even changing at this point.

A long breath runs through my nose as his dark eyes meet mine, exposing he’s fighting his own battle: silently pleading with me to bring things up by making a cutting remark or joke about our night. I know he wants it because it’s the only way we can both talk about it and relive it. It’s apparent by the way his jaw locks and his eyes waver from mine that he also doesn’t want me to respond. He’s waiting for me to consider his words and come back. His arm flexes as he holds the table even tighter. Then he stands and stalks out of the room, leaving my heart racing.

Holy shit.

REVIEW

This is why I love NA. This book. The anticipation… I had butterflies and goosebumps and my lungs hurt from holding my breath. I just… don’t have the words.

“Smiles like yours make this world a better place.”

This is the story of Lauren (Lo) and King. It’s what happens when you have the most incredible night with the most perfect person, yet cannot remember most of it. You have small parts to the puzzle, but the biggest piece… is missing. That all changes when Lo meets King in an unlikely place.

“We don’t always need someone to put things back together for us. Sometimes we just need someone to try to understand our pains and frustrations and validate that what we’re feeling is okay.”

Truth be told, when I heard that Mariah Dietz was coming out with a new novel, I had decided that I was going to read it…. before even reading the synopsis. She has quickly become a favorite of mine, so it didn’t matter what the book was about. I knew I would read it and love it. She has a way of creating a story that starts before you read the first word. It starts with her covers that play a huge part in weaving together with the book to create a perfect storm that will ruin you for other books.

“… it’s not something about you, it’s everything.”

There are so many bits and pieces to ‘The Weight of Rain’, but when you put them all together, you have a beautiful coming of age story of second chances and learning which relationships aren’t worth saving. This one will stay with me for a long time. Definitely one of my top favorites this year.

REVIEW

“We all have dragons that need slaying… What’s yours?”

Slaying the Dragon was everything I hoped for… and so much more. You’ll go through a roller coaster of emotions and be left wondering what’s the truth and what isn’t. There is deception in every corner, except when it comes to the love that Tyler and Mackenzie feel for each other.

“the most meaningful thoughts can’t be communicated with words.”

Slaying the Dragon picks up where Chasing the Dragon leaves off. If you haven’t read part 1, stop looking at this review and immediately start reading it (you can thank me later). We know that Tyler struggled with his job and his heart in book 1. Now he must decide if he should fight for the other part of his soul or walk away forever. Either way, Mackenzie could be in danger as her past meets her present.

“Stay,” he murmured in a lazy voice.
“For how long?”
“Forever.”

I’ve said this before but Tyler is the perfect balance of Alex & Cam. You take the best parts of each of them and you have Tyler. He’s made mistakes. A lot of them. But you can’t help but root for him and Mackenzie. They complete each other in a way that makes you forget all about how he met her in the first place.

T.K. Leigh does an exceptional job of keeping you on the edge of your seat, right up until the very end. I thought I figured it out. Then I’d second guess myself until I went with my original outcome. Come to find out, I was completely wrong! Not just slightly wrong. Completely. Wrong. This was the perfect follow up to book 1.

“Wait, Mackenzie!” Tyler cried out after me. “Tell me what you want me to say and I’ll say it! Letting you walk away from me once was the biggest mistake of my life. I won’t do it again.”

I spun around just as I was about to open the front door. “You let me walk away from you?” I hissed, my teeth clenched.

“That’s not what I meant.” He ran his hands through his dark brown hair and I could see the desperation wash over him. “What I meant to say is all the lies, all of it… I’m so sorry I put you through it. But do you think I regret any of it?” His eyes grew more intense and impassioned, his chest heaving as he poured his heart out to me. “Not for a second.”

I glared at him, waiting for him to explain.

“If it wasn’t for all the lies, for my assignment, I never would have met you, so I’m not going to say I regret a fucking second of any of it. I don’t care what it takes to win back your heart. You can push me away all you want. You can tell me you’ll never forgive me, that there will never be an us again, but I will always come back for you. A hundred times. A thousand times. I will fight for us until I take my last breath.”

He stepped toward me, grabbing my hand in his, caressing my knuckles in such a delicate way that made me want to melt into a puddle.

“Please, Mackenzie…” He leaned toward me, brushing his lips against my forehead, kissing me so delicately, so lightly. “Serafina,” he whispered, “tell me what it will take and I’ll do it.”

Despite everything he had just said, I simply couldn’t let him back in. Relationships were based on trust, and Tyler took my trust and used it against me. I couldn’t forget that, no matter how much my skin yearned for his touch.

“You want to know what it’s going to take?” I asked softly, freeing my hand from his grasp.

He nodded, nervous anticipation radiating through his body as he looked at me with eager eyes.

“It’ll take one more time,” I murmured, opening the door. Peering over my shoulder, I saw his deflated expression. “It will always take one more time.”

Synopsis

I married the right brother.

At least that’s what I tell myself at night, when I stare at the ceiling and listen to the rhythm of the grandfather clock down the hall. It never feels like the mere passage of time, but a countdown towards something inevitable.

Bobby Lightly is selfish, irresponsible, and careless. I haven’t seen him since the day I married his brother. He slipped out during the wedding reception without a word.

A year later, I heard Bobby was drafted to Korea. He never said goodbye to anyone. Never sent a letter. We had all come to terms with the fact that he was probably dead somewhere, either a victim of the war or its aftermath.

That is, until in the midst of an unrelenting heatwave, he showed up at the doorstep of the house I lived in with his brother.

Everyone thinks I’m cruel. Everyone thinks I should be easy on him. They think I don’t understand him. They all think I hate him.

But what no one understands is that it was Bobby who broke my heart.

And I think he’s back to do it again.

I snickered to myself. “He never had a chance. Rory never had a chance.” I shook my head in pity for the man I had grown to begrudge. “From the first day of our marriage, he couldn’t win because he wasn’t you.” I spun around, looking to the black forest for a way out, an exit from my tragic dilemma. “I don’t know how to fix this. He’ll never be you. It’s not his fault or our fault. It just is. And for years I resented him for that. I loved you. I loved hating you. I loved loving you. And when you left, I blamed him. It’s not fair. None of it is fair. For him. For us.” My shouts vanished into the dark night. Just like all my efforts, they meant nothing. “We tried so hard to do the right thing. We sacrificed us for him. And I think it just made things worse. Look at him.”

“Stop,” Bobby said firmly.

“I was so cold to him. I pushed him away so much. I created that man you see today. Do you think that was the right thing?”

“Stop,” Bobby repeated.

My emotions erupted out of me, explosive from years of being crammed into a secret space. Years of secrets I couldn’t tell. Of unrequited love. Of a life unfulfilled. Of dreams demolished. I pounded my fist to my chest. “It hurts. It physically hurts to see you every day. You are the first person I think about when I wake up. When I thought you died, I died. Rory was with a corpse.”

Bobby stepped closer to me. “Stop it, Lil.”

“And you keeping being you and I am trying so hard not to love you.” I didn’t care anymore about pretending. The threads were ripped and I felt as raw as the festering wound I had dealt with for the past seven years.

“And then you take me dancing and you tell me how you wrote me letters that you never sent and you bring me here. You make it impossible not to love you, dammit.” I thrust a finger in his direction and scowled. “And I hate you for that.”

Review

“How long have you loved me?”
“Since before I even knew what it was”

4.5 stars

I’m a sucker for story lines that touch on subjects that are considered more ‘taboo’. One girl and 2 brothers… and she doesn’t know if she married the right brother?? Uhh… yes! I couldn’t sign up for this one quick enough.

I know that cheating and these sort of ‘love triangle’ stories are a trigger for some, but don’t let this one pass you by. It follows Lilly as she tries to decide if she should follow her heart or her head. On paper, Rory is the better choice. He is ambitious, reliable and cares about Lilly. But. Bobby is the wildcard in this game of love. He ignites something in Lilly that you can’t ignore. The problem? He’s the brother of the man that Lilly is set to marry. Two brothers. Complete opposites. If Lilly chooses Bobby, she has no idea what her future has in store for her. But… choosing Rory… that is the best bet for a secure life.

“I’m not settling for pieces of you anymore. I want all of you.”

I loved everything about this novel, even the time frame it took place in. Nina tells a tale of a girl who makes a sacrifice for her future. She goes with the easy choice and ignores what her heart tells her. What she didn’t expect is for Bobby to come back in her life digging up old secrets and forcing her to face what her heart has been feeling all along. What do you do when nothing is ‘really’ wrong, but it doesn’t feel right?

Think you have it all figured out? That just isn’t Nina G. Jones’ way. You’ll learn that nothing is what it seems and there’s just no pretending the heart doesn’t want what it wants. True love doesn’t ever really go away. You may try to run from it, but it’ll eventually catch up with you.

Not reading Swelter would be like…. eating meatloaf for dinner, everyday, for the rest of your life. My point is, it would be sad. (and you have to read the book to understand the reference).

EXCERPT

“Just know, Miss Charli, no last name, the next time you break one of my rules, I won’t respond as lightly.”

“You won’t?” I asked, more aroused than curious. “What exactly does that mean?”

He moved closer, seductively teasing my breasts with the presence of his wide chest. “I guess we’ll need to find that out together.”

I had to lift my chin to see his eyes. The light blue sparkled with suggestions. The longer I stared, the more a part of me wanted to find out exactly what he had in mind. There was also a part of me that knew that wasn’t a good idea. I shrugged nonchalantly. “Then I guess I better not break any of your rules.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” he asked.

“Oh, I believe I can be all kinds of fun.” I gasped as he pulled me nearer. My nipples—the ones that had softened during our conversation—were now hard nubs burning with desire as they were pressed against his broad chest. That wasn’t our only connection that made my insides tighten. Lower, his hardening erection pushed against my stomach.

Review

what the what?!?!? Holy bananas… that. was. ridiculous!! (cannot wait for the next book)

I’m not exactly sure what to even say about ‘Betrayal’. I’ve read previous novels by Aleatha Romig and I always wonder… how will she top that? Then I read something new (like Betrayal) and I’m completely blown away. She gives you just enough to keep you wanting more, but not enough to put any pieces together.

“My imagination wasn’t even close to what I found.”

This quote perfectly sums up what I read. I went into this with certain expectations. I read the last page and let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding. The synopsis didn’t completely make sense until after I finished reading the book. That is the beauty of Aleatha Romig’s writing. It’s so full of depth that you never know what you’re going to get. I feel like she just scratched the surface with Betrayal, which worries me. If I was so caught up in book 1, what will happen with book 2?

If you’ve never read anything by Aleatha, you are doing yourself a complete disservice. She completely messes with your head… all with a smile on her face (she is seriously one of the nicest people).

From Bestselling Paranormal Romance Author Lisa Olsen

I’m not hiding who I am. Well, I’m hiding what I am, because you don’t just say Hey, everybody, I’m Scarlett and I’m a shifter at the first mixer. All I want is the chance to go to college with normal people and lead a normal life for a change, maybe even meet a normal guy. I’ve just been too chicken to go after it until now.

I’m making friends, I even met a cute guy who seems into me. Everything’s working out like I’d hoped. Except for this other guy, Kane, who thinks he has to protect me, just because we’re both wolves. Every time I turn around he’s there with his dark, piercing stares and his deep, sexy voice that somehow manages to get past my defenses. I left my pack back home for a new start. The last thing I want is to get caught up in any shifter drama, no matter how sexy the package it comes wrapped up in is.

Kane is exactly the kind of man I don’t want. Bossy, infuriating, insisting he knows what’s best without even asking me, and so freaking hot, his ego’s the size of Texas. I especially hate it when he’s right. It turns out there are scarier things out there than midterms, and they’re after me.

* * *

The last thing Kane’s looking for is a mate – but that’s exactly what his Alpha has ordered him to bring home. A very specific mate. Adding Scarlett LaRoche to the pack will cement his ties to her pack and the prophecy, which puts him one step closer to the ultimate power. But can he seduce a girl that doesn’t want to be seduced?

Challenge accepted.

*** Scarlett Moon is a shifter paranormal romance with steamy sex and violence, and should not be read by those under 18. It can be read as a stand alone book, or as part of The Wolves of Cutter’s Folly, and has a HEA. ***

Kane had me under his spell, and I felt a flutter of panic as I realized I’d made a big mistake in agreeing to this dance. But suddenly, I realized he was under mine as well. I could feel the effect of the tiniest shift in my hips all along his body, and the desperate way his hands smoothed over my skin. He was mine, every bit as much as I was his in that moment.

It was a definite high, knowing he was completely attuned to my every move. I felt sexy and alive in a way I’d never felt before, and part of it was because I knew I shouldn’t be doing this. Kane wasn’t what I wanted in a man.

But it was just a dance.

Turning, my back pressed against his chest, never missing a beat when his hands closed on my hips. His hot breath fanned across my neck, and my skin tingled as I sensed his hunger for more than the dance. Kane’s arm wrapped around my middle, pulling me close, and I flashed back to that hot kiss in his kitchen – the feel of his hands on my bare flesh and the rush of desire I’d felt. Was still feeling. Pressed up against the length of his body, we swayed and pulsed together to the beat of the music. At the brush of his lips against my ear, my hand stole up to wrap around the back of his neck, pulling him closer.

“Your body remembers me.” His voice was low and intimate by my ear.

It wasn’t just a dance. It was so much more.

He was right, my body throbbed for his touch, and in that moment I wanted it too. “I remember lots of things,” I whispered back, trusting his ears to pick it up through the din of the room.

“So do I. I’m a fucking idiot for letting you go that night.”

No, he’d been right to let me go instead of forcing the issue. Stopping had been the right thing to do. Just like I knew I should put on the brakes before what we were doing got too out of hand. And yet my body still moved with his, shivering with delight when I turned to face him and his fingers traced a path down my back.

“Admit it. You feel it too.” His cheek nuzzled against mine, marking me with his scent.

“I don’t want to,” I murmured, even as I erased the last breath of space between us, pressing up against him shamelessly.

“You’re mine,” Kane growled, his fingers sinking into my hair to tip my face up before he took my lips. I opened my mouth to him, awash in the taste of him, drowning in his scent. The kiss in his kitchen had been a pale shadow of the heat that sparked between us on the crowded dance floor. I’d never had anyone take control of me like that.

I was utterly his prisoner, trapped by the cage of his arms. One hand held my head in place while the other clutched at my hip as he took what he wanted. He growled again, a primal sound that touched something deep inside me, and I clutched him tighter, my nails raking against his back in my desperation to get closer to him. My reservations were gone. Kane was everything I wanted in a man and the only man for me as I kissed him back with everything I had.

I am a writer, wife, and mother of two currently living in the Pacific Northwest. I am a complete TV addict (have to have it on at all times, even when I’m writing). I also enjoy online RPG’s, singing, reading, cooking… lots more I can’t think of at the moment.

The supernatural has long been my favorite to write and read. Werewolves, vampires, witchcraft, ghosts, things that go bump in the night; these are a few of my favorite things to write about. Not sparkly beings with phenomenal cosmic power that are always the smartest, bravest, prettiest Mary Sue to walk the planet, but real people who just happen to have this little quirk…

I’ve just published my 27th book, Scarlett Moon (The second of my Wolves of Cutter’s Folly shifter books). I’m currently working on Carter, which takes place in the Forged Bloodlines vampire universe.
